Reflections: Reminders from the Hymn “Be Thou My Vision”

HYMN
"BE THOU MY VISION"

I have always had a love for the old Christian hymns. I love how they contain biblical lessons and really focus on God. In this series I will be sharing my favorite hymns and the helpful reminders they contain. The first hymn I want to spotlight is “Be Thou My Vision”.

God must be number one

The first reminder in this hymn is that God must be number one in my life. I must put God first each day and constantly be aware of his presence by my side from the time I wake up until I sleep. I must also remember that God watches over me while I sleep. The point is that my main focus should be on God.

God provides love and wisdom

I must remember that as a Christian I am a daughter of God and I can go to him the same way I go to my father here on earth. This is an encouragement to those who have lost their parents, you can find true refuge in God. I do not need to rely on wealth or on the acceptance from others because God’s love is enough.

I must look to God for wisdom and let him guide me on this journey through life. It is easy for me to rely on myself but I must look to God.

God provides true strength

I must look to God for strength and not rely on myself. He is a refuge in the middle of the storm and I must walk by faith and not by sight and keep my focus on God each day as I wait to finally. I trust that God will help me as I journey through life.
