Life is filled with twists and turns and it is always helpful to have a solid place to find advice. I believe that the book of Proverbs in the Bible is one of the best places to find wise advice for any aspect of life. Here are some life lessons I have learned from Proverbs chapter 16.

  1. When it comes to planning, I have learned that plans are just plans. I can plan all I want to plan but there is no guarantee my plans will come to pass. God is in control and I am only here today because God has given me a new day. I must trust God and leave my life in God’s hands.
  2. Pride truly comes before the fall. I have learned that is better to be humble in all aspects of life. I must be humble in arguments and not get angry and I must be humble in success and not let the power get to my head.
  3. God brings justice. God wants me to treat people equally whether they are rich or poor, black, white or of any skin color. I believe God’s justice also extends to punishing evil with an equal measure.
  4. Encouraging and positive words can really help someone facing a hard time. I want my words to build up and encourage others. This also reminds me to be careful with what I listen to or read or watch as everything impacts me in my soul.
  5. It really is worth it to live a life that honors God and continue this into old age. I don’t believe this prevents suffering but I believe that God blesses obedience.
