The word wisdom appears in gold. There is an illustration of a gold gift box below the text. The background is black.

It is always helpful to have a place to turn for wise advice to take on the different aspects of life. The book of Proverbs in the Bible is like a manual for life where you will find helpful advice for many aspects of life. Here are some life lessons I have learned from Proverbs chapter 18.

Seek wisdom

Seeking wisdom takes action and effort but it is always worth it at the end of it all. It is important to seek wisdom from the best place and I believe this is found in the word of God.

Stay away from wicked things and actions

Bad behavior will bring punishment at the end. It is also dangerous to encourage bad behavior. I must stand for what is right no matter what happens.

Mind your words

The words we speak hold a lot of power. We can build up with words and we can damage with words. The words we speak can draw us into trouble and can destroy relationships and when we offend someone it can be very hard to fully restore that relationship. I am learning to closely guard my words but this takes time and I still make mistakes.

Hard work is important

Laziness only wastes time, we only have a limited time on this earth so we should not waste time. Hard work is rewarded at the end.

God is a true refuge

God is a refuge for all who will come. This world is becoming more uncertain so I must learn to completely trust God and hide in his refuge. I am thankful God gives me strength each day.

Pride leads to destruction

Pride will ruin things in the end. It is important to be humble in all situations and to put others first. Pride causes us to think better of ourselves but something will come to humble us in the end. It is better to be humble from the start rather than to get humbled by force.

Be at peace with others

When we are humble we can more easily be at peace with others and have less arguments. When you are humble you will forgive and let things go. This is not easy to do and it takes time and work. I am still working on this myself.

Friendship and marriage

The advice found here on how to have friends seems very simple, it is just to be friendly. I think it is easy to complicate things sometimes so maybe all I need to do is just step out of my comfort zone and reach out to others and be friendly. This is hard for me but I want to work on it some time. Marriage is a good thing and it must be respected so I hope that more choose to be married over just living together.
