Reflections: Thoughts on the Poem “On Time” by John Milton | Keep Eternity in Mind

A clear glass hourglass filled with fine sand, set against a dark background. The hourglass has a geometric, faceted shape rather than the traditional rounded style. Most of the sand has flowed into the bottom chamber, with a small amount remaining in the top. The image is in black and white, and the lighting creates reflections and highlights on the glass surface, giving it a dramatic and elegant appearance. The hourglass is placed on a shiny, reflective surface.

Have you ever reflected on the concept of time? The poem “On Time” by John Milton looks at the concept of time. Here are my thoughts on this mysterious concept.

As a Christian, I have a different view on time. First, I look at God and how God is outside of time. He is everlasting, God has no beginning and no end. He knows all that will come to pass in the future.

Second, I think of eternity. God gives every believer everlasting life, so one day in heaven time will no longer have an impact on believers.

Third, time takes so much away from us here on earth. We lose time in different ways, some die early, some waste time on meaningless things. Each day that goes by is time we have lost.

Christians will rise above time in eternity where we will be forever with God. This poem is a beautiful reminder of this truth.

This reminds me to keep eternity in the front of my mind and to remember what a gift God has given me. I will one day not be bound by time. I am so thankful for this.
